Moore School of Business
Web Site Privacy and Security Policy

The purpose of this document is to establish and promote the ethical, legal, and secure use of computing and electronic communications for all members of the Moore School of Business community at the University of South Carolina (USC).

The Moore School of Business cherishes freedom of expression, the diversity of values and perspectives inherent in an academic institution, the right to acknowledgment, and the value of privacy for all members of the USC Moore School community. At the same time, the Moore School may find it necessary to access and disclose information from computer and network users’ accounts to the extent required by law, to uphold contractual obligations of other University and Moore School policies, or to diagnose and correct technical problems. For this reason, the ultimate privacy of messages and files cannot be ensured. In addition, system failures may lead to loss of data, so users should not assume that their messages and files are secure.

Neither the Moore School nor its agents restricts the content of material transported across its networks. While  the Moore School does not position itself as a censor, it reserves the right to limit access to its networks or to remove material stored or posted on Moore computers when applicable to USC or Moore policies, contractual obligations, or if state or federal laws are violated. Alleged violations will receive the same academic due process as any other alleged violation of the University or Moore School policy, contractual obligations, or state or federal laws.

This Privacy Policy outlines the information that the Moore School of Business Web site may collect and how we may use that information. Definition
The "Moore School of Business Web site" is defined as publicly accessible pages hosted under the domain mooreschool.sc.edu, and our private, secure alumni pages under the same domain.

The Moore Web site contains links to other University of South Carolina sites, and non-USC sites, such as external sites for alumni groups and Career Services (provided by ExecuPlanet). Please be aware that the Moore School is not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites. This policy applies solely to information collected by this Web site.

Personal Data
The Moore School will not collect any personally identifiable information about you, such as name, address, telephone number, or e-mail address ("personal data") through our site unless you have provided it to us voluntarily on our public pages or through our private, secure alumni pages for which you must register. If you do not want your personal data collected, please do not submit it to us.

When you do provide us with personal data, we may use that information in the following ways, unless stated otherwise: we may process that information in order to fulfill a request you have placed with us; we may update our alumni database; we may store and process that information to better understand your needs and how we can improve our products and services; we (or a fulfillment house or other third party on our behalf in connection with a promotion) may use that information to contact you; and/or we may provide other third parties with aggregate—but not individual—information about visitors to, or users of, our site. We will NOT sell, rent, or market personal data about you to third parties.

Children/Direct Notice to Parents
The Moore School Web site has no intention of collecting any personal data from individuals under 13 years of age without parental consent. Where appropriate, we will specifically instruct those under age 13 not to submit such information on our site and/or will take reasonable steps to ensure parental consent to such submissions.

Examples of this type of information include the type of Internet browser you are using, the type of computer operating system you are using, the IP address of your computer, and the domain name of the Web site from which you linked to our site. This information is used to ensure that our site meets the needs of the majority of our users, as well as to diagnose problems with our server. This information also helps us produce statistics on how often our various pages are visited.
